From my good friend Fr. Jerry Pokorsky:
The Parable of the Good Bureaucrat
A man was going down from Jerusalem when he was attacked by robbers, leaving him half dead. A priest and a Levite happened to be going down the same road, and they passed by on the other side. But a member of the USCCB's Campaign for Human Development saw him and took pity on him. He went to Congress and lobbied to end the budget cuts to welfare programs using the beaten man as a poster boy. The prospects for the bill's passage look good. Meanwhile, the man died of his wounds, but everyone felt good about themselves.
And I was ready to hear a ten minute erudite essay as I walked to lunch...to rattle my cage.
Short, but as always, Fr. Jerry hits home.
