A short time ago I (thought I) was subscribing to someone’s substack. It turns out that I was unknowingly registering to set up my own.
Even though it is said (oddly, because who wants to attract them?) you can’t attract flies with vinegar, I now have daily emails announcing that this or that person has subscribed to my substack. (I have not yet reached 10,000 subscribers.) So, I thought I might as well post something once in a while.
Here’s what you can expect (once I figure out how to do it):
I do a weekly book club podcast with Joseph Pearce and Vivian Dudro (a senior editor at Ignatius Press). It’s called Ignatius Press — Off the Shelf. I’ll post episodes. We’ve just started G. K. Chesterton’s Everlasting Man.
I also do a weekly 5-10 minute podcast. I call it my Disjecta Membra (cf. Ezek 37) or Scattered Thoughts. I think the real name is something like Fr. Fessio in Five, but I’m not sure. I’ll post these episodes also. They’re generally of a spiritual nature, but right now I’m doing a few connected episodes explaining what Artificial Intelligence is (and is not) in very simple terms.
I frequently send links to articles or podcasts that I find of particular interest. I’ll post those also, with a short introduction to facilitate your use of the Delete key.
Well, here we go. It feels like dropping into the ocean a bottle with a note in it. Fortunately I’m not stranded somewhere in the Pacific.
Father, we can’t wait! Your contributions of any kind will be a big blessing to Substack. You could do a post with a link to all the book club episodes, for instance. I have promoted them, here and elsewhere, any chance I get. Where else to get commentary on so many great books by yourself, the founder of Ignatius Press, the amazing Joseph Pearce, and the best editor Vivian Dudro?
Substack seems to attract book people who like lists, literature and the classical values in culture. Hopefully, usually, the Catholic faith as well. But as you were a student under Pope Benedict XVI, they better think twice about ignorant remarks. In my opinion. . .
We wish you much success in your journey here. And maybe it might be some fun for you as well.
Welcome to Substack, Father! I look forward to any and every piece you share with us.
